I think the reason you have less problems is the people who own Cosworth’s now have more cash and are not trying to do everything on the cheap. They would rather it done correctly and will pay for it. As a result you don’t have to take on low profit stuff as much to fill up dead machine time. It’s the people that want stuff done that don’t want you to make a dollar that are the issue. You will in turn do it faster employing more Heath Robinson tactics to make a quid. Precision takes time because humans are fallible you have to give people doing precisions jobs time to second guess and recheck work and that costs money. People never factor the cost of having something done too quickly or cheaply.

I had the misfortune to work for JLR when they were releasing the new Evoque at the time. Quality inspection dept were being bollocked for finding too many faults. “ let the cars go out, the dealers can sort them out”….. that was the typical statement from the idiots, also known as chargehands……… The occasional meeting for enthusing the workers, showed how low down the list JLR were in the world for reliability. Japs were ruling, still are ruling the quality world. I wouldn’t have a JLR product as a gift……….

Watch LR times for timing up those v6 diesels up correctly. There’s a pin location on the front of the block and the flex plate hole will lock after( there’s a fair amount of give on the flex plate bolt holes) also an alignment tool for the crank reluctor ring , line that up even a tad out and it won’t fire up.

Nice little tool that disk/drum skimmer. Nice vids of the day to day working of a machine shop. More interesting than watching someone honing out a cylinder for the 100th time. Sure you've driven passed my local machine shop Hamlins Engineering been going for over 100 yrs. Service should always get better as you iron out issues in all areas. Keep up the good work 👍

I have had a few discs machined over the years and ALWAYS found that having them surface ground has ALWAYS been far superior to lathed. It may be ok for cast iron discs but when it comes to any other alloy steel then I definitely go for surface grind.

Lee, not to labour the point but, you and Isaac really need to watch LR time for the rebuild sequence. No-one doubts your professionalism guys that's why we love your channel but the quirks of this engine are major. You don't want any comeback from a disgruntled customer who will blame you for any problems on start up.

I saw a disk lathe on marketplace the other day that mounted to the car itself. Basically looked like the cutting head of that amco. But there was no motor or obvious way of powering it. Otherwise I would've like to grab it. Kinda have a feeling it was just a cutting head that he got scammed into thinking was something it wasnt

A torque converter is essentially a viscos fan, working off a “fan” plate spinning through oil, whose viscosity(the resistance of a fluid to a change in shape, or movement) is used as a means to cause the assembly to spin.

It’s been a decade since I last cut a rotor and, you took me right back down memory lane. Thanks again Lee, and thank you for even just putting in a little tech to balance out your video. I don’t have an issue with the moaning or showing what’s coming in and out of the shop. The updates and projects are wonderful too, just please try to maintain a balance of everything and I will continue to catch every video. I know that I don’t matter in the grand scheme but I believe that a couple of other subscribers might feel similar to myself. And I’m from the other side of the Atlantic and I still stumbled upon your channel and continue to enjoy it

Hi Regarding the vw diesel head I have had plenty of time with all of the vw diesels. The first of there engines the 1.6 idi unit was a shim and bucket design and they never suffered any scuffing of the cam or lifters the next generation that was turbocharged had hydraulic lifters and then the trouble started cams and lifters would scuff not terribly but scuff they did then the first of the di units arrived still a similar design but the scuffing got worse and finally the pd unit the worst of the lot. I don't know what the vw common rail units are like I can only imagine no better

Don't want to cause concern but I did a v6 Lion the other day, with the cam pins in, that hole in the flexplate DOES line up with the locking tool, I'm not sure you can rely on tdc, many engines don't pin at tdc these days.
